AI Leaders Grant FAQ

Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program at a U.S. based college or university, including seniors in their final semester.
Be participating in an unpaid/low-paying summer internship, research program, fellowship, or similar experience related to gaining professional or academic experience in a field.
Be involved in a program or role that uses AI in some capacity, even if the role does not officially require the use of AI, to support the work, research, findings, or overall experience.
Identify as a first-generation and/or low-income student.
Applicants are responsible for ensuring that their participation in any internship, research, or fellowship complies with applicable laws, institutional policies, and their individual eligibility requirements.

The award amount is up to $5,000.
Funding can be used for living expenses, transportation, housing, program costs, or other needs. Applicants are also encouraged to outline any additional expenses and provide a clear justification for how the funding would support their participation.

Please seek your university’s First-Generation/Low-Income (FLI) or Financial Aid office. They can provide you with a letter of support or provide guidance on how to obtain your financial aid documents.

Recipients will be paired with a career coach from their field of interest. Throughout the duration of the internship, the career coach will provide guidance on navigating career goals and supporting overall professional growth.

The Process
Application Opens
The application opens March 27, 2026
Application Deadline
Make sure to complete all required sections, review your essays, and plan ahead of time! Deadline is April 26, 11:59pm EST.
Interview
Selected applicants will be invited to proceed to the interview stage with the Passport team.
Recipients Notified
Applicants will be notified of their application status via email during the week of May 18, 2026.
